My first architectural work was drafting, design, and illustration at Mackenzie from 1986-90. During that time I completed my B Arch (1991) at Oregon School of Architecture + Design studying under Leila Whittemore, David Rockwood, John Cava, and Brad Cloepfil. While at OSA+D I interned at David Rockwood and Associates working on Barnett House. My thesis work at OSA+D was post-structuralist research with implementation in an Earth Based Cartesian Armature and Facility for Extraterrestrial Arrivals and Regalia. In parallel studies I received the Portland State University Thomas and Phyllis Burnham Award for Fiction in 1990.
After graduating OSA + D I worked part-time at Studio of Architecture (John Cava, Brad Cloepfil) from 1992-94. From SOA I returned to Mackenzie from 1995-98 fulfilling IDP and designing in retail, office, and industrial.
1998 brought my licensure and I joined SERA Architects from 1998-03 as project architect designing in residential, retail, office, and historic preservation (civic and urban landmarks).
From 2004-18 I was at Ankrom Moisan as design architect on urban residential (high-rise and mid-rise condominiums, apartments, affordable, and retirement), urban planning, Young Life camps development, hospitality, and interiors support/design. In addition to project work, Speaking Design began as discussion around “What is Design?” that I began workshopping at Ankrom in 2013.
In 2018 I joined Soderstrom Architects managing design in K-12, Higher Education, Healthcare, Interiors, and Planning. My leadership role at Soderstrom continues Speaking Design which establishes a framework within which each of us, without exception, are designers with unique and powerful strengths of generative expression.
Since 2004 s m a l l c h i t e c t u r e has been an evolving architectural practice.
